Sunny weather and a splash of rain having wonderful effects on songwriting process. Everybody coming up with the goods. Currently there’s (MY BABY’S) DOUBLE ESPRESSO, CLOWN FEET, JUMP THE FENCE, AQUARIUM, ORLEANS IN JEANS, FUN SIZE, CAN’T GET/CAN’T STAND UP and THE BROWN BUNNY. Hopefully we’ll have a bunch of these new little monkeys in the set for our July shows.

The story of this band is rather picturesque and almost without knowing they formed their band and without even realizing they were already surrounded by fame and a recording contract. YEAH YEAH WHATEVA BLAH BLAH ETC.....VIA JACKIE...X
10 May 2010Spent the day in our favourite studio, Lo-Fi. Filmed a couple of songs for their web-page. None of us had much interest in playing anything from the previous albums as we’d kinda toured those songs within an inch of their tender lives. Instead we bravely knocked out a version of future 7” track (MY BABY’S) DOUBLE ESPRESSO. Surprise and relief enveloped the tiny practice room when a perfectly-formed little firecracker emerged in live form. Exciting to know we’ve got some fresh blood in the set. The rough mixes of this and another two (CLOWN’S FEET and JUMP THE FENCE) arrived today from Gary Olsen in Brooklyn. Usually these kind of mixes arrive and yr fairly aghast at the sheer wrongness of it all. Not so with Gary. Everything sounds pretty dynamic. I’ve been enjoying these three tracks more than anything we’ve recorded in such a long time. If things move forward as expected, these tracks should form a three-song 7” on WHAT’S YOUR RUPTURE (our good friend Kev pederson’s label. same guy who took The Yummy Fur to the USA). Oh, for the video taping today, we also recorded our version of Alex Chilton’s TAKE ME HOME AND MAKE ME LIKE IT. It’s a no-brainer but always gets the blood pumping when it kicks-off live. There are few thrills to compete with singing “gut my guts, stab me up an alley, call me a slut in-front of your family, bite my neck, cigarettes and big eyes, black leather thoughts and a whip like words.”
